Biography

Research Interests:

Dr. Moturu’s research program is rooted in intersectionality, social justice, and a decolonial approach focusing on enhancing mental health and career outcomes for youth and adults, especially at the intersections of gender identity, ability, race, and immigration status. To this point, her research focuses on two related areas: (a) enhancing vocational and well-being outcomes for individuals with historically marginalized identities (b) integrating cultural practices and technology in providing clinical services to racial and ethnic minorities. Current projects include: (a) applying career self-management model to explore workplace advocacy behaviors and support for individuals with mental health disabilities (b) examining how black individuals with disabilities understand and invoke their rights under the American Disabilities Act (ADA) (c) community based participatory action research project on cross-cultural consultation with the University of West Indies, Jamaica to advance research on culturally responsive consultation.

Leadership:

Dr. Bhanu Priya Moturu is an Assistant Professor in the Counseling Psychology program in the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology at NMSU. She received her PhD in Counseling Psychology from University of Maryland, College Park. She completed her APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at the University of Florida Counseling and Wellness Center (CWC). Dr. Moturu’s clinical interests focuses on issues relevant to women, career development and meaning making, immigration related concerns, group counseling and supervision.
